Needs Versus Wants, Needs Versus Wants

I'm mere days away from another birthday, yet it seems no matter how old I get, I'll always find it impossible to separate needs from wants. Oh well. Fuck it.

First thing I want today: this ADORABLE sun bag:

(Kate Spade, $99 Buy It Now, eBay)

Normally I find Kate Spade to be a total preppy snoozefest. But this Alexander Girard bag has Miami Beach Bubbie plastered all over it, and I totally have an inner Bubbie who'll someday be wearing garish pant suits with humungo faux rhinestones, topped by a safari-style button-down with the sleeves rolled up, cinched with one these:

($1.99, Funwirks.com, you can actually STILL buy these!)

Oh yes. I certainly did. Anyway, I'll carry this bag. (Tons of 'em on ebay!) Until then, I give it T-minus 2 sec. until some chick with stringy hair and smeared eyeliner rolls down Bedford Avenue wearing one of those t-shirt slides.

Okay, more wants:

Outrageously $$$ Chloe boots. Here's the real-deal, Black AmEx version:

($1,155, Chloe, Satineboutique.com)

Here's the Visa versions:

($425, Tracey Ross, Bellegray.com)

($311.99, David Ackerman, Bluefly)

And finally, the Discover card versions:

(Apprx $88, Kurtgeiger.com)

It's the money shot, y'all!

($55, Report, Zappos.com)

Lastly, here's something I snapped a camfone shot of yesterday that I definitely did not want nor need to see:

(This woman's personal closet of horrors)

Dudes. Why? Why, why, why, WHY? Animal prints are super great when they're reserved for the special ocassion fun leopard-print trench or car coat:

($99, The Find, shopnbc.com, but don't buy it because it's real)

But A GIRAFFE PRINT ON YOUR ASS? Unless you're doing some sort of promotion for Toys R Us (and I don't know why on earth you would be) that's just downright indecent.

Day to night. What to wear this season.

With the Chelsea Flower Show starting this week and a summer full of garden parties to get through, we've composed a set of outfits that will get you through any occasion at any time of day

The long summer days can mean a quick get together on a sunny afternoon can easily turn into an all night affair. This versatile outfit will take you effortlessly from day through to night

Delicate prints in a summer-sky palette make for this season's prettiest pieces

How to wear it

Cornflower-blue and white print tops work best with crisp whites trousers or skirts to keep the look fresh. Prints in these colours are best worn on their own keep the other half of the outfit plain.

Stop the Presses, Tara Subkoff On Sale!

Holy shit, some of those Tara Subkoff for Easy Spirit shoes, which are so lovely but so frustratingly over my budget, and the budgets of all Easy Spirit shoppers, are on sale at shopbop! Get thee there! Check these deals:

"Toe ring" flats for $45, nice 'n' simple.

High-heel sandal with bow (in somewhat pukey color) for $72 (down from $240). Sorta dig 'em.

Ankle-tie sandal, also with bow (in less pukey green color, and also in tan) for $84 (down from $280). These are the most tempting, for me, of the sale selections.

Not on sale, infuriatingly:

The tall covered boot, which i will always heart, as long as they keep selling it. I guess it'll be $495 till I'm old and unabashedly gray (worst).

And of course none of these are not quite as cool as the Holice shoe, either, which has a more pleasing shape, droopier ties, and a hefty $280 price tag:

Isn't it pretty? More pretty shoes TK, as we say in the biz.

Project No-Fun Way: PARTIAL SPOILER ALERT, DORKS!

MK and I will probably not be posting TOO too much about Proj, since there are so many other blogs and whathaveyous.com that discuss the phenomenon ad nauseaum, however, without SPOILING it for you lazy or otherwise engaged peeps who didn't see last nite, I need to say that I am NOT havin' it. I think a TERRIBLE mistake was made. Grrrr. Goodbye, XXXXX. We hardly knew ye, you ridiculous, greasy, histrionic, affected freak. That's all I will say.

I also wanted to share that I read this juicy tidbit I read somewhere by way of Tim Gunn's podcast. (Much like your granny, I don't own an iPod. I know. What's even weirder is that I also own and wear dentures, also like your gran. Watch for 'em in Fall '06!)

Apparently "someone's" been sneaking around and stealing bobbin holders out of some of the sewing machines! (For those of you unfamiliar with the inner workings of a sewing machine, that's like stealing the ignition out of a car.) Not good, but TOTALLY AWESOME, and I love it!

Finally, go sign this petition for Tim Gunn to be named the sexiest man alive. There are FAR too few signatures on this petition for my liking.

Okay. That's it. Make it work, Bingettes!

WTF Fashion Files Parte Deux

This unfortunate footwear had a tragic run-in with an old-school pair of E.G. Smith slouch socks, a pair of orthopedic slip-ons and a Bedazzler. Tragedy.

($91.20 [???????], Irregular Choice -- wtf? I usually love them! -- the erroneously named Houseofstyle.com)

From the WTF Fashion Files

Today’s WTF Fashion comes from the utterly hilarious and Best Houseguest Ever, Pam. Earlier this week, Pam sent me an email containing only the following in the body:

What the F is this?

And a link. To this:

($54, Victoria's Secret)

WTF indeed. Thank you for bringing this to our attention! The answer: you've stumbled across a rare fashion specimen: the foulest skirt for leagues around. Leave it to the mysterious Victoria to churn out not just poorly made, overpriced lingerie but a skirt so heinous that it's an affront to the entire skirt genre. The entire skirt genus or whatevs! It's bad enough that Victoria's Secret clothing catalog, (if you’ve ever seen one, surely a small piece of your heart died forever), contains items that haven't been updated or rephotographed since Jill Goodacre was hot shit. It just makes it worse that they're pedaling repugnant trends that shouldn’t even be trendy. Personally, I wouldn't even wear this in the comfort and privacy of my own bathroom while relieving myself. Horbs.

P.S: I won the floral bag! Tee!!
