Ricky Martin: GLAAD Award Honoree

Ricky Martin: GLAAD Award Honoree

He came out of the closet last year when he revealed that he’s gay, and Ricky Martin is set to receive an award from GLAAD for his contribution to the gay community.

The “She Bangs” singer will be given the Vito Russo Award, which honors an openly gay, lesbian, transgender, or bisexual media professional, at the 22nd GLAAD Media Awards in New York City next month.

GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios explained, "Ricky coming out was a game changer for many gay and transgender Latino children, who for too long, did not have many out gay people to look up to."

"Through his music, videos and interviews, Ricky Martin has sent an important message that our community wants the same things all people do: an equal chance to raise our families and take care of our loved ones."
